Minnesota road worker dies after being hit by an SUV


Shakopee, MN (KROC AM News) – A road construction worker seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in a Minnesota work zone has died from his injuries.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office reports that 59-year-old Ricardo Perez of Thief River Falls died Thursday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, Perez was working as a construction flagger directing traffic in a work zone in Spring Lake Township when he was beaten around noon on Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle Perez hit was identified as 87-year-old John Oellrich from New Prague.

Investigators do not believe that alcohol or drugs contributed to the fatal incident. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating this incident further.

“This is a tragic reminder of the importance of always being vigilant and extra careful when driving in work areas.” said Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen. “We have a shared responsibility to ensure the safety of men and women who work in road construction zones.”
