Lane restriction for shifting on Route 119 North in Youngwood

A shift in traffic is due to take place on Youngwood’s Third Street this week as work continues to rebuild Route 119 through the district.

Third Street is normally two lanes north on Route 119, but the right lane has been closed to the rebuilding project.

PennDOT said the traffic restriction will shift to the left lane this week, where crews will be performing drainage work on a section of the road that extends north from Hillis Street to the Stout discount carpet. This weather-dependent work is expected to continue into spring.

Rebuilding the southbound lanes on Fourth Street is slated to begin later in 2022 and be completed by the end of 2023, PennDOT officials said.

The reconstructed lanes will contain “chicane”, slight curves in the roadway that will force traffic from right to left and brake motorists. Adjacent sidewalks are being modernized and provided with manholes, which have contributed to a rough ride in the lanes.

Golden Triangle Construction is the general contractor for the $ 24.1 million project.
