Kenneth Carr Obituary (2022) – Santa Rosa, CA

Kenneth E.Carr
1942 – 2022
It is with loving and heavy hearts that we share the news of the death of Ken Carr on January 25, 2022. He has stoically navigated heart disease and other health issues for over a decade, and his big, giving heart could not continue at age 79. He was lovingly surrounded by his immediate Sonoma County family.
Kenneth E. Carr was born in 1942 to Cory and Garnett Carr in Long Beach, California and spent his teenage years as a member of Pharaoh’s Car Club. He earned his BS in Civil Engineering from Sacramento State University and was licensed as a Civil Engineer and Surveyor, Civil Engineer and General Contractor. His expertise has been valued by colleagues, friends and family throughout his professional life. He owned his own engineering and construction consulting firm, Kenneth E. Carr & Associates, and more recently served as Senior Principal Civil Engineer at Hogan Land Services mentoring junior engineers and students at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.
In 1965, before embarking on a busy and productive professional life, he married Judy Kitchen, whom he knew at Camarillo High School. They moved to Santa Rosa in 1973 and built the two houses they called home in Bennett Valley. They had two vivacious boys, Michael and Bryan, whom he supported as adult leaders while actively involved in the Bennett Valley 4-H Club. After his sons started careers and families of their own, Ken became actively involved in the Santa Rosa East Rotary Service Club (President 2006-2007); was an avid member of Team LP Fitness Playground; and later bought a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere 1 to restore.
Ken has had adventures throughout his life, including a trip with his wife and sons in the winter of 1976 when he drove from California to Maine in their white Ford station wagon, camped and fished for crab on the Oregon Coast, made his way to Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and Belize ventured, and Fiji.
Ken earned the title Mr. Wisdom for sharing wisdom with everyone he met. He was known for his salute, “It’s good to be seen!” and his ever caring statement, “It is what we do!” Ken Carr’s stories are voluminous and wonderful; He was a great teacher who shared his knowledge and experience with others. We are grateful for his positive and lasting influence on our lives.
Ken is survived by his 56-year-old loving wife Judy, sons Mike (Jacqui) and Bryan (Meg), seven grandchildren, Kristina (Matt) Markofski (Evan and Wyatt), Austin, Jack, Gracie, Bayne, Julia and Sarah, brother Charlie and sisters Debra (Tim) and Katherine Carr.
We thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Kaiser Hospital Santa Rosa and beyond for their love, kindness and caring for Ken.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Santa Rosa East Rotary Foundation Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2785, Santa Rosa, CA, 95405. There will be a celebration of life on February 12, 2022. Please join us.
