The City of Sonoma is hiring to fill a maintenance worker position in the public works department. The position performs maintenance functions in an assigned department, including streets, parks, cemeteries, or water distribution systems. operate, maintain, and repair assigned City facilities; and to provide technical support to an assigned supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance jobs; learn to operate a variety of vehicle and stationary mechanical equipment safely and effectively in routine situations; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; do heavy physical labor; maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.
MAINTENANCE WORKER I
experience and education
Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and skills will qualify. Building or manual experience is desirable. Corresponds to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License and Certificate
Upon assignment to water, possession or ability to obtain a Level 1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board within twelve months of appointment.
Possession or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license.
MAINTENANCE WORKER II
In addition to the qualifications for the maintenance worker I, a maintenance worker II must have the following:
Departmental policies and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. Relevant local, state and federal laws, codes, ordinances and regulations applicable to the area of operation. Basic arithmetic knowledge to calculate volumes, areas, lengths, percentages and conversions depending on the area of application.
Training and guidance of less experienced maintenance personnel. Operate special tools and equipment used in the assigned area.
Experience and Education:
Two years of responsible experience similar to Maintenance Worker I with the City of Sonoma.
License and Certificate
If assigned to water, hold a Level 2 Water Distribution Operator certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board.
The current annual salary range for this position is:
MWI $54,147 – $65,816
MWII $59,561 – $72,397
