Frampton Construction completes TradePort Logistics handling facility > Charleston Business Journal

Frampton Construction Co. LLC has completed construction of a new 89,000 square foot 130 door handling facility TradePort logistics in Charleston. The design-build project was developed by The Keith Corp. in partnership with the SC Ports Authority.

The location is off Clements Ferry Road in the Cainhoy area and provides proximity to the Port of Charleston for the Company’s transhipment operations, which serve high-volume retailers focused on quick-to-market.

“The Frampton Construction team has delivered another great product in the Charleston area with the TradePort transshipment facility,” said Alan Lewis, managing partner, industrial development at The Keith Corp., in a press release. “We are proud to have worked with them to carry out this unique project.”

The 89,000 square foot hinged concrete building has a 20 foot headroom, with 130 dock doors and approximately 2,000 square feet of office space at the front of the facility. A newly constructed access road connects the property to the Charleston Regional Parkway, the press release said.

A large part of the project consisted of site work and paving to accommodate 630 trailer spaces and 110 car spaces. About 2,000 concrete trucks were required to pave the parking lots, which together cover 983,000 square feet.

“We are proud of our team who completed the TradePort Logistics facility to an impeccable standard in a very short time,” said Keaton Green, vice president at Frampton Construction, in the press release. “The sheer volume of concrete required for this project presented a challenge, but with careful planning from pre-construction to completion, we were able to achieve a smooth and timely delivery.”

George Powers, President and CEO of TradePort Logistics, said in the press release, “We are delighted to open our new handling facility, delivered in record time by Frampton Construction and Keith Corporation. There is no comparable facility in the Charleston area and it allows us to offer the most efficient and cost-effective services to large retailers looking to develop the sprawling Port of Charleston.”

Berenyi Inc. was the project architect, and Thomas + Hutton working as civil engineers. Work at the site began in October 2021 and was completed in eight months.
