The federal agency for occupational health and safety is continuing its investigation into the roof collapse that killed one worker and injured another in Orange City last month.
Orange City Police have completed their investigation into the November 8 incident at a Dollar General Store under construction at 1550 S. Volusia Ave. After finding no evidence of criminal activity, police did not bring charges, Lt. Jason Sampsell.
No further construction work has taken place on the site since the fatal accident.
“The investigation is still ongoing,” said OSHA spokesman Eric Lucero The beacon. “From the time we opened an investigation, we have six months to issue subpoenas if necessary.”
The collapse of the roof of the shop under construction resulted in the death of Fredys Montejopolo, 66, of Kissimmee. According to the police, Montejopolo was standing at floor level inside the building and handed pieces of wood to his younger brother Guillermo Montejopolo, 56, also from Kissimmee, when the roof gave way. Fredy’s Montejopolo was wedged under the falling debris.
Guillermo Montejopolo was transported to the AdventHealth Fish Memorial in Orange City for treatment for his injuries.
