Bank breaks ground for new branch

Simmons Bank officials gathered Tuesday, along with White Hall officials and members of the Chamber of Commerce, to break the ground for a new branch at 1308 Robin Road.

The facility will be located on approximately 2.24 hectares. Construction of the approximately 4,700 square meter branch begins this month, with the branch expected to be completed in late summer, according to a press release from Simmons Bank.

The decision to build a second bank branch near the intersection of Robin and Sheridan Streets was entirely customer-driven, said Chad Pittillo, mayor of Simmons’ Pine Bluff.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation shows traffic numbers are increasing at the intersection of Interstate 530 and Sheridan Road on the western edge of the city, and White Hall Mayor Noel Foster uses the traffic numbers when speaking to businesses or restaurants that have a move or consider a new location.

According to ARDOT numbers from 2020, the number of vehicles at this intersection was up to 26,000 daily, one of the largest intersections with vehicle numbers in Jefferson County.

It’s just a snapshot, but a telling one, Foster said.

The planned widening of Sheridan Road will extend on both sides of the interstate from the junction of US 270 and Arkansas 365-S over State Highway 104 to Highway 365 for approximately two miles. According to Foster, this project is also driving commercial construction forward.

Along with the expansion of Simmons, Relyance Bank moves its headquarters to Sheridan Road. Other new builds on the street include TownePlace Suites by Marriott and White Hall Plaza, which houses Moe’s Southwest Grill and Schlotzsky’s.

When the Simmons branch was first announced in early 2021, Daniel Robinson, then Regional Community President of Simmons Bank, explained the need for a new location.

“Our White Hall store is one of the most-visited stores in our entire presence,” said Robinson. “Simmons Bank is pleased to provide our customers with a second, convenient location to meet their banking needs.”

While Simmons customer needs warranted a new White Hall location, usage at its Dollarway location declined, so the decision was made to permanently close it, Pittillo said.

“With the addition of the new White Hall branch, Simmons Bank deepens our commitment to Jefferson County and Central Arkansas,” he said on Monday.

Describing the new single story bank branch as “unique” to the Simmons Group, Pittillo added, “It will stand out” at White Hall.

The planned outer facade is white brickwork with a glass front with LED lighting and plenty of space for customers and staff.

“With 10 employees, the office will have mortgage and corporate lending capabilities and provide personal and business financial services,” said Pittillo.

The new full-service bank will have four-lane drive-through access, an ATM with deposit facility, lockers and indoor tills, he said.

“In addition to added convenience, the upgraded facility will also give us broader access to the products and services our customers want to meet their evolving financial needs,” he said.

Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects designed the White Hall branch and Flynco Inc. is the general contractor. The Redstone Construction Group will complete the construction site work. All three are headquartered in Little Rock. Buckner Realty of Pine Bluff provided brokerage services for Simmons Bank.
