Adolfson & Peterson (AP), a leading national construction management company and general contractor, and Candeo Schools, a nationally accredited and award-winning network of charter schools, have completed the expansion and renovation work at Candeo North Scottsdale at 7191 Ashler Hills Dr.
Despite the impact of the pandemic on construction projects across the Phoenix area, AP completed construction of two buildings, various cosmetic and structural renovations to the existing campus, and modernization of the school’s outdoor and recreational areas three months ahead of schedule.

“AP has been building schools in the Phoenix area for over thirty years. When the pandemic broke out, we worked closely with Candeo Schools, SPS + Architects and local subcontractors to resolve many of the issues that were encountered on other projects, ”said Scott Salyer, vice president of operations at AP. “By working together, we not only kept to the schedule, but also delivered the school three months early. We are satisfied with the result and confident that through the expansions and renovations the school is fully equipped to effectively teach and accommodate students in one of the fastest growing suburbs of Phoenix. “
AP approached the expansion and renovation project in two phases. Phase I comprised the renovation of the existing administration building of the school, the painting and sealing of the concrete floors, the renovation of the inner courtyard, the expansion of the playground, the greening of the playing field and the modernization of the parking lot.
Phase II included the construction of two buildings. The first 7,902 SF building provides the school with six new classrooms, toilets, a break room, storage cabinets and lockers. The second 2,470-SF building offers three additional classrooms, a furnace, an engine room and an electrical cabinet. Phase II also included the construction of a covered courtyard for students and employees.
“Our collaboration with Adolfson & Peterson has been a smooth and impressive experience,” said Dr. Stephanie Musser, Founder and CEO of Candeo Schools. “The diligence and responsiveness with which they achieved our school’s goals was evident from the start. The result is a bespoke, beautiful campus that is tailored to the needs of our community and our educational program. “
Candeo Schools opened its North Scottsdale campus in August 2020, marking its second school in the Valley. Candeo North Scottsdale trains Grade K-8 students through a classic approach to education and the nationally recognized core knowledge curriculum to expand, enrich and invigorate the academic experience. Candeo’s other school, Candeo Peoria, opened in 2008 and has played in the top 1% of the state’s schools.
