The winners of the annual AIA|LA Design Awards were announced after a gala in front of more than 500 at the chapter’s awards party at the BroadStage in Santa Monica.

Newly built and unbuilt projects were honored in the Design and Next LA Awards categories and presented to the audience by their three-person jury and 11-year-old aspiring architect Madison Dorsey and AIA|LA President-elect 2023 Leslie Sydno. The chapter’s top honor, the Gold Medal Award, was also presented at the ceremony to Gabrielle Bullock, Director and Director of Global Diversity at Perkins&Will. A total of 42 projects related to the topic “Elevate Community” received awards in both categories.

“’Elevate’ is an apt description of the primary goal of our profession. Elevate, particularly here in Los Angeles, is a concept that we aim to bring to fruition through our work,” said current President Mitra Memari in her address. development of supportive housing; adaptive reuse to preserve our history; Redesigning healthcare facilities to improve patient experience; or working on the front lines to advocate for justice and inclusion in all forms.”

Each winner meets the environmental standards of the national AIA climate strategy 2030 Commitment.
